How Feeds Are Summarized

Two rules decide what makes it in — a 50-hour window and a 15-post cap, the same for every feed you follow.

THE SHORT VERSION

Every feed you follow contributes its newest posts to your summary — up to 15 posts per feed, from the last 50 hours. Here's exactly how that window works and why it keeps your brief current instead of burying you in a backlog.

WHAT MAKES IT INTO THE BRIEF

Follow enough channels and the brief stops being “everything” and becomes a question of selection: what even counts as new? The answer is two rules, and they apply identically to every feed you follow — a YouTube channel, an X account, or a subreddit.

THE 30-SECOND VERSION

  1. Two rules govern every feed: a 50-hour window and a 15-post cap — quiet feeds add nothing, loud feeds are capped, not excluded
  2. The 50-hour window means only posts from the last 2 days are eligible
  3. The 15-post cap takes the newest 15, so one loud account can’t eat the brief
  4. Links you paste as sources ride along — the window and cap apply to feeds only
  5. Your first summary looks back 100 hours instead of 50, so day one isn’t empty

TWO RULES, ONE JOB

Every feed you follow contributes to your summary on the same two rules, whether it’s a YouTube channel, an X account, or a subreddit. Together the two rules do one job: your summary reflects what’s new, not what’s accumulated.

If a feed is quiet, it contributes nothing that day. If a feed is loud, it’s capped so the rest of what you follow still fits.

THE 50-HOUR WINDOW

Only posts from the last 50 hours — a little over two days — are eligible. Older posts stay where they are; your brief stays current. Anything you’d reasonably still catch up on makes it in; anything older is intentionally left behind rather than quietly filling your brief with stale posts.

THE 15-POST CAP

At most 15 posts per feed, always the newest ones first. A feed that published 40 things still contributes 15 — never the whole firehose. The cap is what keeps the rest of your feeds’ posts in the same brief instead of crowded out by one very loud account.

WHERE PASTED SOURCES FIT

Posts you hand-picked as sources ride along in the same summary — the 50-hour window and the 15-post cap apply to the feed side, not to the links you paste. A video from 4 months ago works fine as a source; it just isn’t a feed post, so the window never rejects it.

THE FIRST-SUMMARY EXCEPTION

The first summary on a new account looks back 100 hours instead of 50, so day one isn’t empty. After that, every summary uses the regular window.
