What Is a Source?

One link, hand-picked, read in full — the thing you already know you want, summarized.

THE SHORT VERSION

A source is any single piece of content — a YouTube video, an X post, a Reddit thread, an article — that you hand-pick for a summary. Here's how sources work in DailyTube and how they differ from feeds.

THE THING YOU ALREADY KNOW ABOUT

A feed covers what you follow. But some content isn’t a subscription — it’s one specific thing you already know exists: the launch video everyone’s discussing, the thread someone sent you, the article that’s been open in a tab since Tuesday — that’s a source.

THE 30-SECOND VERSION

  1. The thing you already know about — the launch video, the sent thread, the tab open since Tuesday
  2. A source is one single piece of content you choose — paste the link, DailyTube reads exactly that item, nothing else
  3. Sources catch the thing you already know about; feeds keep you current — one is a request, the other a subscription
  4. Every pasted link is read in full — and an oversized one is skipped honestly and labeled, never quietly cut

A SOURCE IS A REQUEST

A source is any single piece of content you choose: 1 YouTube video, 1 X post, 1 Reddit thread, 1 article. You paste the link; DailyTube reads exactly that item and summarizes it — nothing else gets pulled in, nothing gets skipped.

Sources are for the thing you already know about: the launch video everyone is talking about, the thread you saved for later, the long article you’d rather read in 2 minutes.

SOURCES VERSUS FEEDS

Sources answer a different question than feeds do. A feed is for staying current — you follow a channel or a subreddit and everything new shows up. The distinction is simple: sources are hand-picked, feeds are followed. One is a request, the other is a subscription — and DailyTube summaries can carry both.

HOW SOURCES WORK IN A RUN

When you build a manual summary, every link you paste becomes one source. Each one is read in full — the video’s transcript, the post and its replies, the article’s text — and summarized alongside everything else in the same run, including everything your feeds brought in. If a source turns out to be enormous, it’s skipped honestly and labeled in the summary rather than quietly truncated.
